The statement by Muslim religious leaders in Chicago (issued after I taped the interview) said much more than they don’t support a political candidate. They said:
“We are committed to refusing support for any entity or individuals advancing Mr. Rashid's candidacy, including providing platforms, fundraising opportunities, salām greetings, sanctioning or officiating marriages, participating in funeral prayers, or any other form of support for all those who would support Rashid”
I talked to one of the leaders of the Imams behind this unusual effort before the petition went public. The initiators of this petition (including Sh. Hamza Makbul) successfully received wide support from Chicago Imams.
What good is it being “the inheritors of the Prophets” if they were bashful about what that inheritance was and if they let bad faith actors outside the Muslim community do it for them?
