Thanks for this article. I wish people could understand that the actions of anyone who seems to get this much validation and actual money from their social media presence (as the person named here does) should always be viewed with some healthy skepticism. I imagine that to some, involving a bunch of international villagers in a hot take they probably don't know or care about is ok since it's for a "good cause".

Assalamualaikum,

I just want to point out that one of the key people behind Najam Institute is Ibrahim Memon Madani, the subject of a MuslimMatters expose in 2021 by one of his former students (https://muslimmatters.org/2021/11/10/the-case-for-the-north-american-muslim-community-to-divest-from-darul-uloom-al-madania-and-darul-uloom-canada/). Among the allegations in the article against Madani's institutions are charges of financial corruption. Najam purports to be both a humanitarian aid organization and an Islamic educational institution. I would be skeptical of what they say.

you do realize Najam institute just gave money for a distribution? You have mischaracterized a small non profit and levied accusations against them for no real reason?

What does “gave money for a distribution” mean? My call to Najam’s CEO was not returned before I wrote this. However what factual information is wrong here?

if you went on shiblys ig you will see that the organization working in africa is called help yateem based in the UK, a very good and responsible charity, on the post which mentions najam you will see, that they gave money for distribution. which let me explain for you my brother in islam means.

Lets say you run a small organization in California called Ahmeds charity, and people give you zakat funds to distribute, someone from a reputable charity from the NYC like Muhammed aide reaches out to you, and you know the guy, lets say his name is Mustafa, he says hey we are going to uganda to help orphans and widows, so you have some money as a charity and this use is good, you tell your donors who gave this money, hey we are giving to Muhammed aide to distribute, they say do it, so you give it to them.

where does andrew tate come into all this into accusing Najam? Nowhere does it say Najam received any money from tate, you accused them of being a perfect charity for scammers, they are a small charity who work on a small scale, you are making people doubt them, because of misinformation, brother, you may see your work as very noble and honest, which is fine, but you must do your due diligence in this matter, and you dragged najam through the mud, without doing this.

This is the post you have spoken about: ALHAMDULILAH! First day of Charity distribution in Kenya with @helpyateem done! May Allah swt bless and accept our efforts. Jazakumallahu Khairan for all who contributed, together we can have a great impact! Thank you @najaminstitute for your sponsorship!

what does it say? Sponsorship by Najam. for a distribution.

this is the second post, which has nothing to do with Najam at all:

Andrew Tate sent us money to feed hundreds of orphans and needy families while we are in Kenya. If this upsets you then find a charity and donate even more, don’t let those who upset you help more than you. And if this inspires you then click the link in bio and donate like he did to help those in need. We need to compete in helping the creation of Allah. Let’s go. Will be in the ground another week inshallah. Link in bio.

my main point of responding to you brother is first off to point out the unfair criticism of Najam, which has nothing to do with anything but providing some zakat funds to be distributed for needy people. Second for you to apologize to them, as you should for having said things which are untrue.

I have updated the article. I plan to write another one about this saga.

Hassan Shibly, the former CAIR-Florida Executive Director, recently appeared on a social media video supporting a nonprofit called Najam Institute.

this sentence to open is still incorrect,

Hassan shibly a civil rights attorney ( yeah he was with Cair, he's moved on so should we), recently appeared on an instagram video supporting a nonprofit called help yateem in which they provided distributions to local needy with the support of an atlanta based non profit called najam.

Why is it necessary to start painting him so so so, negatively from the get go. Can we try to at least be even keeled? Yeah he mixed things up, say that, don't make him out to be this sinister character from a cartoon show or something.

It may be the case that there is a lack of access to fire in Africa, causing most of the year’s food to be cold, yet somehow, orphan and needy women's access to Rumble and other social media platforms preferred by Tate is on point in the continent.

This is an insulting statement, why would you even utter such a statement, have you not read the seerah or the stories of sahabah? it mentions poverty faced by all and why many couldnt even burn a fire in their house!

The reason they cant get warm meals, is due to the level poverty, faced by them in that area, being able to make a fire and find meat or even rice to cook is a challenge, he just had them yell out to thank tate and his brother, I am not a fan of tate, but to use his donation in a light to paint shibly negatively takes away from maybe his giving sadaqah to change his life, we both know that brother. you may have a bone to pick with shibly, but this is not proper to insult the poor of kenya, tates sadaqah and shiblys trip.

if you want to discuss his past, issues or other matters, get on a call with him, or host him on a podcast and chat it out with him.

jazakallah for you edits to clear najam, but you didnt apologize to them for what your previously wrote but wasnt correct, you might have spoke to the Mufti fella, but since you wrote it here, it would be proper to inform all your readers you mischaracterized their org and are apologetic for that, but you did take every single point to use it against shibly, just talk it out with him man, I am sure you guys can talk out your differences.

Jazakallah for your niyah.

Thank you for your perspective. That is a correct fact. You may not like it, but that’s what happened.

Mufti Samir did not return my call initially, later he explained. Najam is not completely innocent here though the update was needed based on new information. Your comments indicate you have missed several steps. I hope to do a follow up to this however since much of what went wrong is not yet clear to readers since I did not discuss it yet. This is not a knock on Najam but some more education would do the nonprofit sector some good.

I know Shibly. Trust him at your peril.

Ahmed Shaikh has his own direct experience with Hassan Shibly's deceit. I know enough about Shibly to say with confidence that he has no regard for the truth. He has lured unsuspecting women into bogus Islamic marriages, and then slandered them. His categorical denials of allegations against him in Leila Fadel's article published by NPR on April 15, 2021 are not convincing. She knew enough to write that as executive director of CAIR-Florida Shibly "used his position to seduce women and bully critics with impunity". The Islamic principle of not calling out others for their shortcomings must not be invoked to ignore the actions of a sexual predator, who leaves real victims behind.

Not sure I see that we see in the articles negative approach towards all non profits and labeling everyone for wrong doing but Don’t you think it is wrong and It was a little too much to talk about someone whose previous sins are forgiven by Allah. Who r we to put him on hot seat for his previous life when Allah has forgiven.

So you agree with the approach to philanthropy, where a public figure who allegedly donated to an orphan feeding has all the orphans gather for a promotional video yelling that the donor is the “Top G”?

You make some points that are valid and some that I can't verify the accuracy of, and you are correct the Andrew Tate was an online pimp, gambling den owner and a con man, but,

The burden of proof is on you to prove that Andrew Tate is still a pimp after his conversion to Islam.

I did not say he is still a pimp and I don’t care. This article was not really about Tate.

Expand full comment

My respected brother,

I Understand your point.

But he is a human, and you have used his name in a published article.

You mentioned that he was a pimp before Islam which is kind of true. He surely was a con man.

He has since publicly converted to Islam.

And your implication is that either his sins have carried over from pre Islam or he is still doing the same crimes.

I understand this article was not about Tate. Then you shouldn't have mentioned him.

If you have mentioned him, then you are burdened with clarification.

Thanks for making this clarifying comment brother. I was also going to make that point as well. I think brother Ahmed has done an amazing job critically analyzing these Islamic Institutions which is worthy of praise due to the complexity of it. So yes Tate wasn’t part of the main point but insinuating those things which so far have never been proven can be problematic especially that he’s a new revert.

Expand full comment

I mean to be fair to br Ahmed Shaikh , it's not "never proven". Its well documented that Tate ran a cam girl website where they would defraud many people into sending money. Man definitely was a pimp in a sense and a con man in every sense.

But the article seems to insituate that he is still a pimp. So that's the issue.

You seem to give CAIR National a free pass. They knew all about Hassan Shibly- his CVE grant application, secret wives, how he treated his wife, crazy interpretations of Islam (that he openly discussed CAIR events), misogyny, scandals. The Council on American-Islamic Relations chose to ignore it because Hassan Shibly brought millions of dollars into the organization. With his departure, CAIR-Florida appears barely up and running.

Unfortunately CAIR-national did not handle it’s chapters well. CAiR-National has had chronic management challenges I do hope they are overcoming.

I know board members of a chapter I won’t mention. They have insinuated there are “issues “ with the management.

There was also a spy for a Zionist organization, an issue that has been completely memory-holed, despite promises of a thorough investigation.

To this day, CAIR stubbornly refuses to hold it' representatives, notably Hassan Shibly, but also its executive director Nihad Awad, responsible. As Edward Mitchell moves into a leadership role, he shows no outward signs of doing things differently. He claims that he does not tolerate misconduct in the same open letter to me in which he asserts that the allegations I keep bringing up have been thoroughly addressed by CAIR. He refers me to two documents in which CAIR addresses those issues. I have read those documents forwards and backwards and they are pathetic. The first, dated April 16, 2021, contains an outright lie, that CAIR conducted a thorough investigation and found nothing to indicate it knew anything about Shibly's sexual exploits before December of 2020, when the allegations appeared in social media. In fact, as this post demonstrates, CAIR was well aware of them in 2016 (https://reformcair.com/2021/11/14/cairs-incriminating-communications/).
